Plot Summary: At a very tender age, Park Dong-joo loses his father who is a 119 public servant on duty while trying to free a woman trapped in the car caused by the accident. Just as when his father and the woman tries to flee the area, the tunnel collapsed that resulted to untimely death of the two. That woman, is Yoon Soo-wan's mother.

Though her father is still alive, Soo-wan mostly lives alone in their house. Her father, a reputable doctor, is barely home. Not because of hospital duties but primarily because of the bitterness he nurtures in his heart  brought by his wife's death and the loss of his daughter's eye sight. The atmosphere at home is just too much for him to bear, notwithstanding, his daughter's present condition. Soo-wan is already accustomed to her situation and learns to live independently.

Park Dong-joo is always on top of his class; and a good and reliable son to his mother. He works part-time at a cinema and delivers porridge to his mom's loyal customers - one of those is Soo-wan. They meet and become each other's first love. Soo-wan's life becomes better as she gets closer to Dong-joo's mother and little sister. Their existence adds color to Soo-wan's pitiful life. But life changes for the young sweethearts with the premature death of Dong-joo's mother. Dong-joo and his little sister have to leave as scheduled for the US for the latter's treatment. Soo-wan, on the other hand, receives both eyes of Dong-joo's mom for the corneal transplant. Soo-wan have waited long enough for this moment to come. Her desire to see again becomes stronger than ever before as she yearns to see the faces of Dong-joo's family. The schedule of Dong-joo's sister's surgery prevents him to delay their US trip and bid temporary farewell to his girlfriend. Extreme sadness envelopes Soo-wan's entire being when she wakes up and didn't find the people precious to her heart. It seems she lost them forever without a trace, no word or whatsoever. Soo-wan has never gotten hold of Dong-joo's message he left her before departing. Had she known, she wouldn't have waited for him in vain, wouldn't have suffered and wouldn't have given up.

Already a surgeon when he returns to Korea, Dong-joo goes by his american name, Dylan Park. He soon starts his practice at one of the hospitals where Soo-wan's father is the director. Dong-joo addresses the director as 'father'. Their relationship can be traced back in the US when Soo-wan's father followed him there. It is through guilt of the latter's mother's death that brought Soo-wan's father to locate Dong-joo. In attempt to appease self-reproach, Soo-wan's father funded Dong-joo's education. A bond looms between the two which progresses to a father-son relationship. At that time, however, Dong-joo is unaware that the person who helps him through and who he regards as father is Soo-wan's. It is only recent when Dong-joo learns that the daughter his 'father' used to talk about is Soo-wan. The father knows though what Dong-joo's role used to be in his daughter's life.

Park Dong-joo finds his childhood sweetheart working as emergency rescue worker. But the much awaited reunion seems not to be what he longs for. As it turns out, Soo-wan is already engaged to Kang Ji-woon, a neurosurgeon in the same hospital, who also happens to be a very close family friend. Out of frustration, Park Dong-joo suppresses his identity and emanates arrogance towards Soo-wan. When he left twelve years ago, Dong-joo never heard anything from Soo-wan, not a single mail in response to the many letters he sent her. Now that he is back, he feels that he is the only one holding on to their past.

Atop the hospital building, Soo-wan's father earnestly urges Dong-joo to leave Korea and go back to the US. The father is already aware that Dong-joo has found Soo-wan and that he is his daughter. The father pleads that he must return and leave everything as it is for his daughter. Soo-wan must not know what happened to them and who her eye donor was. The father further explains that this will break her daughter's heart and cannot live happily knowing that she got her eye sight back at the expense of Dong-joo's mother's death. Dong-joo agrees to the reasoning but reluctant to go, at least, not in the next few months or so. He opens up to his father that he has never forgotten Soo-wan, then asks him if this is the reason why Soo-wan's father helped him.

Dong-joo remains nostalgic of the memories he had with Soo-wan. He visits memorable places he spent time with her before and ends up in the Seyoung Observatory on the night Soo-wan happens to see him there The many encounters they both had since Dong-joo's return makes Soo-wan to question him if they had met and knew each other in the past. Soo-wan somehow recognizes in him the voice, the touch and other small details as she used to remember her first love but Dong-joo remains tight-lipped and have no intention of spilling the beans. Until one day, a patient recognizes him and calls him Dong-joo in a loud voice, Soo-wan confirms, without a doubt, that Dylan is Dong-joo after all! Not wanting to waste any minute, Soo-wan confronts Dong-joo without delay for answers to her so many questions. The latter brought Soo-wan to where the remains of his mother lies, and there, Soo-wan cries long enough over the loss of the person so precious to her who she considers like a real mother. Dong-joo says nothing about her mother being Soo-wan's eye donor. Moreover, he lies about his true feelings and  tells her that he was busy picking up the bits and pieces of his life and didn't have time to think about her at all.

Now that Soo-wan already knows the true identity of Park Dylan, Dong-joo believes he is now ready to move on and leave Korea but his heart says otherwise. Deep inside him, he knows that he cannot let go and so he comes back to give love a second chance. Soo-wan thinks she lost him for good but she is in for a big surprise when he sees him again, more so, to find him as part of the emergency team she's in is truly a shocker. Contrary to Soo-wan's happiness, the father continually resents Dong-joo's decision as he cannot allow marriage between the two thinking that Dong-joo's mother died in his hands. Dong-joo and Soo-wan work so hard to gain approval in which in the end, the father softens and tells Dong-joo to make his daughter happy.

A returning doctor in Yeseong Hospital meets up with Dong-joo and bares assumption behind Dong-joo's mother's death. Dong-joo is in denial of what he hears and decides to leave with Soo-wan for Boston. Dong-joo's love for Soo-wan remains unwavering and is set to protect her from learning the disturbing circumstance of his mother's death. But Dong-joo can only do so much for her. Soo-wan eventually discovers the identity of her donor and in another occasion, overhears the unsettling conversation between Dong-joo and her father. In her anguish, Soo-wan antagonizes her father with unforgiving heart. Consumed with guilt and remorse, Soo-wan's father collapses on the floor and suffers heart failure.

In due course, truth unveils with the hard work of Soo-wan's best friend who is re-investigating the hit-and-run case. As it turns out, Ji-woon is responsible for the incident. Knowing his son's vulnerabilities, Ji-woon's mother makes him believe that the victim sustained minor injuries. Resolute to cover up in her fear for his son being identified by the victim, Ji-woon's mother induced the victim's death with tetrodoxin. Though things has come to light and justice prevails, in the aftermath of it all, Soo-wan still struggles to confront her own misery and runs away but Dong-joo subsequently finds her settled in a distant island. With so much love, Dong-joo awaits for her return patiently.

My Thoughts: The drama is near perfect for me except about the three accidents that I find absurd. The writer should have thought of other means of death rather than what they have shown on there. Great actors and actresses makes the drama irresistible!

My Rating: 9/10
