Plot Summary: Sa Geum-ran (Ha Jae-sook) was pressumed dead when her car was hit and pushed towards the cliff. She falls off but manages to survive the brewing anger of the sea brought by the heavy downpour on one fateful night. Overweight Geum-ran is a kind hearted person who is married to Lee Kang-joon (Jung Gyu-woon) of a well-to-do family. Her husband spends 7 years off shore for business while she stays behind and lives with her husband's family. She was treated badly and mocked by her in-laws because of her physical appearance. Geum-ran did not know that Kang-joon has returned to South Korea. To make matters worse, she finds out her husband's infidelity with the sophisticated broadcaster, Gyeo Chae-yeon. The family favors the iniquitous relationship that left Geum-ran devastated. Poor Geum-ran flees from home and faces an induced accident. To get revenge against the people who have wronged and betrayed her, she seeks help from Han Tae-hee (Joo Sang-wook) who she mistakenly perceives as the plastic surgeon of the extreme make-over television show, Change. She begs for physical transformation but Geum-ran was initially rejected. With her persistence, Tae-hee reluctantly agrees for his own ulterior motive; which is to use the re-birth of Geum-ran. The surgery becomes successful and a total make-over transforms her into a stunningly beautiful woman. She calls herself, Sarah (portrayed by Han Ye-seul). Both Sara and Tae-hee schemes to ruin the wedding of Kang-joon and Chae-yoon. The latter was Tae-hee's ulterior motive. Sarah's change of heart to avenge herself changes over time and just simply wants to win her husband back. In the process, she discovers the conspiracy behind her accident while Tae-hee unravels the mystery that surrounds the death of his parents. Is it possible for Tae-hae to fall in love with Sarah knowing how she was in the past and who he calls ajumma?
My Thoughts: Despite the comments I've read that the plotline is nothing spectacular, I appreciate the making of Birth of A Beauty to the core of my being. I so love Joo Sang-wook and I am just too happy that I get to see him once again on screen. We have our own preference as it relates to drama series, therefore, it is expected that not everyone will find this fit for their own taste. For me, the Birth Of A Beauty was able to set itself apart from the rest. Romance-comedy flicks are usually made light and my basis for a promising one is when it is able to get me into the realm of its characters. The Birth Of A Beauty did this to me and I feel that I am the ajumma Tae-hee's falling in love with! LOL! There was never a dull moment watching each episode. The cute and funny moments on the side brought the story to the next level. I am satisfied with how the story went and may watch it again sometime in the near future.
