Plot Summary: Cha Gong-chan (Lee Min-ho) is a high school student at a prominent private school in the Gangnam district, whose entrance is attributed to his soccer skills. He is the school headache because of poor academic performance, habitual absenteeism and tardiness. He is always into trouble with classmates bullying him and often times reprimanded and held responsible by the school admin because of his social status. Gong-chan is kind hearted and far from what his peers perceive him, which explains his lack of motivation to do good in class and be in school at all times. The only reason for him to remain in achool is his mother.

Seeing that the length of punishment is greater than the allotted time to practice, Gong-chan decides to quit playing soccer. Treated as an eyesore of the prestigious school, the directress wants him kicked out for good. Gong-chan feels into his bones that he is being managed out, he tries his best to reform himself from his bad habits when he falls in love with Min Yoon-seo (Moon Chae-woon), a new comer and daughter of the directress. This fact is hidden from the majority and the only person who knows of her relationship to the directress is Baek-hun (Kwon Se-in), her ex-boyfriend that studied with her abroad.

Yoon-seo is the only breathing person in the campus aside from Gong-chan's best friend that Gong-chan is a kind-hearted person. She, too, falls for him and like Gong-chan, he becomes unpopular when the entire school learns that her award winning essay is a result of manipulation. Her mother, who is building a sure path for her to renowned universities in South Korea, will do anything to achieve her goal without realizing the ill effects it would bring her daughter. Yoon-seo bears mockery and insults thrown right in front of her nose by the class president, not entrely because of the highly acclaimed essay that landed exposure in the newspaper but all due of Gong-chan who she also have special feelings for. With sincere efforts, Gong-chan confides to her about how he feels for Yoon-seo. However, the relationship reaches the ear of the directress and forbids Yoon-seo from seeing him. Meanwhile, Gong-chan gets the chance to play soccer again when Yoon-soo's ex-boyfriend sustains a leg fracture from the fight he has gotten himself into. Gong-chan wills to give his striking best for Yoon-seo and he looks forward for the day of the inter-school match. However, Yoon-seo makes a deal with her mother to let Gong-chan realize his dream in return of breaking up with him. Gong-chan runs after Yoon-so when he learns that she is set to depart to resume her studies abroad. Like mature individuals, they talk about their temporary separation with Yoon-seo's encouragement to achieve success for her and for his  long time dream to locate his father when he becomes a famous soccer player.

My Thoughts:  It's too bad that Mackerel Run was cut short from its original 24-episode plan due to low rating hence its unprecedented cancellation. This could have been a hit had the direction and script were well executed. It's truly a pity that the leads had to endure the unfortunate plight of one of their early projects. It's a good thing though that this did not become a stigma to their now successful careers. Nevertheless, I still enjoyed watching  as I see a different Lee Min-ho here. It's always a pleasure to see him from then and now. Give this a go and give Min-ho a chance to make you laugh.

My Rating: 7/10
